New Site Launch: Phoenix Derby Brats
We just launched a great new site for the Phoenix Derby Brats, a brand new youth derby league run by Arizona Roller Derby in the Phoenix area. They offer a great opportunity for youth girls to get out there and have some fun while getting a great workout! They wanted the site to be youthful and a little girly but not over the top. It also needed to be tough and rugged. A fun color palette and lots of great textures help this site stand out with its fun and unique characteristics.

The new site is lots of fun, and caters toward their youthful teenage audience. We used a fairly bright color palette with purple as the dominant color and lots of white space for content to make everything easy to read and navigate. Some grey tones complete the palette and help even out the bright purple.
Gritty textures are used in the background and faintly in the content area to give the site some roughness. This is for a derby league after all, so they needed to show off their tough attitude.
We wanted to bring in some fun fonts, and used Cufon to incorporate a youthful and sporty font. The Eurostyle-like font is used in headlines and in the main navigation to add a unique touch.
Alissa, the Communications Director for the Phoenix Derby Brats said this:
The Phoenix Derby Brats website launch has been a resounding success thanks to Shannon. She understood the unique needs of this extracurricular group, which would have been highly challenging for most people because youth roller derby is a very new sport. Her contributions and ideas have been invaluable. The site is consistent, easy to navigate and informative. We couldn’t ask for more!
We enjoyed working on this fun and youthful site, let us know what you think in the comments area below! Also, if you’re in the Phoenix area, the Brats will eventually have games you can attend. Check out the schedule on their site to stay informed.
