We launched a great new site a few weeks ago for Delia’s Catering, a company in Virginia that provides event planning and food services for all sorts of events including weddings, corporate parties, and other social events. We wanted their site to explode with flavor and energy so pictures are an integral part of the design, using their great photography that captures their yummy food and great events.

The Details

This site is full of character and little details that give the site a really rich look. Delia’s has some really great photos of their dishes and events so we wanted those to be showcased in a big way. We decided to use a large rotating banner on the homepage of some of their great dishes. Immediately when you land on the site you get a good sense of what they do and serve, which is great for drawing people in to see more. The rotating banner also features a call to action that offers a tasty gift if you cater with them – an enticing offer!

We had a lot of information to get on the site but we wanted it to be organized and easy to navigate through. On the homepage, we divided the information into 3 columns: a welcome paragraph, a contact form where users can get in touch with Delia’s without any extra clicks or digging, and the most recent review from a happy customer.

The Design

For the look of the site, we stuck with warm hues that make you feel comfortable and give you a sense of their classy, Mediterranean style. Pictures accent each page, giving the site a friendly and family-like atmosphere. A soft ornate texture and a rich, warm wood texture are found at the bottom, adding more character to the site, even at the bottom of the page. Subtle shadows throughout the site give the design some depth and movement. Each subpage has its own template, which features a large photo in the background, a smaller picture in the foreground, and it’s own color palette to match the large background picture. For the headlines, we chose a modern san serif font – PT Sans Caption – and are using Google Webfonts to host it. This font gives a soft and friendly look, adding more character. The site is also coded with HTML5 and setup with WordPress so the team at Delia’s Catering can edit and maintain the site on their own.
