5 Mistakes You Might Be Making With Your Website
You’ve worked hard to create a beautiful and informative website for your company so your users have great things to read and look at. It’s easy to make some simple mistakes though and either bring down your site, or lose some visitors without knowing it, causing all of your hard work to go to waste.
We have some quick tips on things to be aware of with your website, so you don’t lose out on any potential business or traffic for your site! Check out our tips and share yours as well in the comments section below!
Not backing up your files
This is one of the biggest mistakes we see (unfortunately all too often), and it’s really a simple thing to do but it must be in place before it’s too late. Call your hosting company to ask about automatic backups, they should be able to set something up for you. If you’re using WordPress, there are some great plugins to handle this for you and they can store or send the backups in the way that works best for you. You’ll want to backup files and databases regularly. Also, make sure to do a complete backup every time you make major changes as well.
Too little or too much text
People come to your site to read more about you, find out what kind of services you offer or some other specific function. If they can’t find what they’re looking for, they’ll often leave, and visit your competitor instead. On the flip side, if they see too much stuff and don’t want to wade through it all to find what they’re looking for, they might also leave. Finding the right balance with the amount of content you display is the key to informing visitors and making sure they aren’t overwhelmed.
Not utilizing analytics
After you create your site, it’s a good idea to add some tracking software (Google Analytics is highly recommended) to show you more about who’s visiting, where they’re coming from, where they’re located geographically, etc. But once that’s in place, you need to do something with it in order for it to be beneficial. We recommend checking in with your analytics about once a week, to see how things are going with traffic and where you might be able to improve. Continually assessing where things are at is helpful and can be very useful for improving traffic.
Using poor hosting
Poor hosting can be problematic in many ways, and can cause tons of issues with your site. If your host doesn’t offer backups or assist with problems when they come up, you’re going to be on your own for those things. Great tech support is one of the things we highly recommend looking for with your hosting company, it will make all the difference in the world if you do have an issue.
Not having a call to action
When users land on your site, you should direct them to do something with a call to action. Call us today, get a quote here, or find out more about us – your call to action could be anything but don’t leave them hanging without directing them through your site. Users will appreciate it and you’ll find that people will stay on your site longer and hopefully be more apt to get in touch with you for more.
Some of these mistakes are small, but some could cost you a ton of time and money. Fixing things beforehand can save you a lot of hassles, so make sure you aren’t making these 5 mistakes on your website! What other mistakes have you seen people make with their site?
