Our Top 5 Website Text Tips

When you launch a new website, much of your energy is focused on the look of it and how it’s presented. Which is certainly important, but your content is also equally important and should have just as much attention. The content on your website informs your users about what you do and directs them through the site so they can learn more. It’s also important for SEO and making sure your site ranks well, since search engines like to see valuable and relevant content that they can index you with. We have a few tips on keeping your text top-notch and making sure it’s working as hard as it can for you. Read on to find out more!

1. Tighten up your text.

Users want to see relevant text, not long, windy paragraphs describing things in detail. Sometimes detail is needed, but make sure to tighten things up where it’s not so you don’t turn users away because you have too much information that they can’t sort through.

2. Expand upon your top services and products.

On the other hand, don’t be too brief either! Your top services and products should be highlighted and explained so that users understand what they are. We frequently see service pages that are really brief and don’t explain exactly what a company does, which isn’t helpful for search engines or for users who want to get to know more about you.

3. Proofread and proofread again.

Tiny errors in your content can be costly as they look like glaring mistakes that could transfer over to your main work. Why work with a company that can’t spell correctly or use proper grammar on their website? Have a friend or outside party read through everything on your website to make sure it makes sense and there aren’t any errors that you missed.

4. Touch on your keywords.

Your content should be geared towards your users, but don’t forget about search engines too. They want content they can crawl and rank you with, so make sure you use keywords that you think your audience will be searching for. Your content will likely already cover relevant content, but it’s important to keep keywords in mind and use them where they make sense.

5. Revisit and keep relevant.

Once your site is launched, don’t forget to revisit your content regularly so it stays up to date and relevant for your users. Don’t be afraid to make tiny tweaks as needed to reword a sentence or change up your text to make it better and stronger.

The text on your website is really important and should work hard for your users and for search engines. What are your top text tips? Share with us in the comments below!
